Security at SAET

The safety and wellbeing of members, staff and tribunal users is SAET’s priority.

The following arrangements ensure safety of all persons attending the Tribunal:

  • Notification of potential threats
  • Police Security Officers
  • Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV)
  • Duress and assistance alarms
  • Behaviour expectations
  • Security and emergency procedures

Notification of potential threats

SAET relies on tribunal users notifying it of potential security threats.

You should notify the SAET registry as soon as you become aware of a potential security threat, preferably before you attend SAET premises.

SAET will assess potential threats and will make any necessary arrangements.

Police Security Officers

Police Security Officers (PSOs) are located onsite to ensure the safety of all persons attending the Tribunal.

The Riverside Centre (including SAET’s floors) is a Protected Place determined under s63B of the Police Act 1998.

CCTV

Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) operates at SAET and is constantly monitored by PSOs.

Duress and assistance alarms

All hearing, conference and meeting rooms are equipped with duress and/or assistance alarm buttons. These buttons can be used by anyone faced by a situation that requires either the onsite PSO or police attendance.

In court rooms, only SAET Members and staff can activate alarms.

Behavioural Expectations

SAET expects all persons to treat each other with respect.

SAET does not tolerate:

  • threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour
  • disturbing or interrupting proceedings

These actions may result in:

  • eviction from the Tribunal
  • stay, or striking out, of proceedings
  • a fine of up to $10,000
  • imprisonment for up to 6 months
